1044 Impact of Obesity on Complications from Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion

Abstract Aim Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion is a procedure growing in popularity for conditions including degenerative disc disease, and discogenic back pain. Obesity significant risk factor the development of pain, with patients raised BMIs at increased complications using posterior approach. This review aims to evaluate profile this patient cohort anterior approach lumbar interbody fusion. Method A systematic search databases Pubmed; google scholar; OVID Medline was carried out between September 2020-November 2020. Studies evaluating risks associated obesity during (ALIF) were identified included according PRISMA guidelines. eligible inclusion agreed by two independent reviewers. Meta-analysis used compare intra- postoperative BMI ALIF. Results Search terms yielded 435 articles evaluation. 13 studies after applying exclusion criteria. demonstrated significantly overall obese (CI = 0.04-0.16, p 0.002) heterogeneity (I2=86%). Patients not more likely develop Vascular (CI= -.03-0.02, 0.62). Simple pooling association blood loss. Conclusions have an impact on complication rates procedures, wound infections lower fusion common BMIs.
